Duty Description: Visual graphics designer with responsibility for graphical user interface design, report formatting and layout, menu presentation and sequencing the logical order of tasks completed in a web application environment. Color-coordinates web pages, incorporates graphics where appropriate and designs the "look and feel" of an application. Attends project meetings and participates in the design of the application if appropriate. Ability to work on detailed, precise positioning for report generation or presentation output. Reports to the project leader on progress, obstacles encountered and possible solution alternatives. Spends approximately 95% or more of the time developing graphics and web content.
Qualifications: Education: 4-year degree with exposure to computer applications and business graphics, or 2-year degree in a technical or graphic field with at least one year work experience in web design or stand-alone application development. Coursework in HTML, Cascading Style Sheets, Rich Text Format and scripting languages are desirable, but self-taught capabilities may be substituted if documented in previous work experience or completed application demonstration.
Software Development Experience: In-depth knowledge of graphic editing packages such as PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, CorelDraw or equivalent. Demonstrated knowledge of web page design software such as Dreamweaver, FrontPage or equivalent. Knowledge of HTML structure and standards, and capability of designing basic web pages, posting them to a server and updating the content. Six months is generally the minimum acceptable work experience.
Database Experience: none required, but familiarity with SQL queries and basic database access methods are desirable.
Communications Experience: Ability to write and speak clearly, communicating effectively in both technical and non-technical settings. English composition and technical writing college coursework. Strong technical writing ability for software documentation, help-files and instructional material development.
