GSA Junior Level Data Driven Web Developer

Duty Description: Software developer with entry-level skills in interface design, database access technology and web application coding. Works on small components of an application such as the user interface, database procedure, report generation or error handling. Expected to improve web application development knowledge through training, certification and on-the-job experience. Attends project meetings and participates in the design of the application if appropriate. Reports to the project leader on progress, obstacles encountered and possible solution alternatives. Spends approximately 95% or more of the time developing the application.

Qualifications: Education: Technical 4-year degree in computer science, engineering, or information technology, or 2-year degree in a technical field with at least one year work experience in web design or stand-alone application development. Coursework in structured programming, database development, and scripting languages are desirable, but self-taught capabilities may be substituted if documented in previous work experience or completed application demonstration.

Software Development Experience: Familiarity with web application development environments such as Active Server Pages, Cold Fusion and/or Java. Knowledge of HTML and capability of designing basic web pages, posting them to a server and updating the content. Six months is generally the minimum acceptable experience.

Database Experience: MS Access, Oracle or SQL-server coursework (3 semester hours), or self-taught capability. Familiarity with data normalization and SQL queries.

Communications Experience: Ability to write and speak clearly, communicating effectively in both technical and non-technical settings. English composition and technical writing college coursework. Strong technical writing ability for software documentation, help-files and instructional material development.
